I purchased the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS a few months ago to replace a much older PowerShot that was nearing the end of its life. I have had nothing but good experiences with the SD1100.

The size of the SD1100 was what first attracted me, as it is not much larger than a deck of playing cards. In comparison to the overall size of the camera, the LCD display screen is sizeable and I find it adequate for my purposes (photographing family, friends, taking it on trips and the like). Unlike my much older PowerShot, the SD1100 has a sliding bar instead of a dial which allows the user to choose between taking photos, movies and reviewing photographs. This eliminates the need to check and see what setting the camera is on when you take it out of the case, as I found the dial often switched without my knowledge.

The SD1100’s menu is highly intuitive, and easy to learn. Unlike some other digital cameras, the self-timer function is easy to find and the number of shots and delay time can be custom set. There are settings for taking photographs under different conditions, such as on the beach, in the snow and underwater, as well as the ability to take black and white, sepia or macro photographs.
